His and Hers

My boyfriend has a beard. Not just any beard, a brawny man-type beard. So when I saw this picture today in A Little Sussy’s post I couldn’t help but share it with the rest of you. I think these pillows would clash with my current bedding…but I’d be willing to get new bedding to match these little babies!

Camp Shasta Coffee Co.

My Uncle Butch and Aunt Lisa own the cutest little coffee-house/café in Lakehead, CA. It’s called Camp Shasta Coffee Co. and it’s truly the coolest place. My Uncle is one of my Mom’s older brothers who relocated to Lakehead (located just north of Redding, CA) recently. My Uncle owned an Auto Body Shop in Santa Cruz. Fitting right? With a name like Butch? By the way, it’s a nickname not the real one on his birth certificate!
Anyway, the place is real gem. When you walk in you are greeted by a mounted Moose’s head. I like to think his name is Boris and he lived a nice long life. My Aunt found him at a junk sale and I think she thinks of him as kind of a mascot. There is an old-fashioned coke machine, 50’s pin-up girls and lots of character including a stuffed quail with its rear end blown off! If you are ever headed north on I-5 check it out and tell them I sent you! <

I Do! You Do? I’ll be there too!

I have weddings on the brain. Not only am I attending a wedding in only a short couple of weeks but I have also been given the honor to be Main of Honor to one of my best friends.
Naturally this has me thinking about my own imaginary wedding. Gossamer, tea lights, soft kisses, too much food and a LOT of dancing. Anyway, this isn’t about me…
So I’ve been perusing wedding blogs, sites, books, and magazines thinking about how to help my dear friend plan and I’ve come to one simple conclusion. Weddings are a whole lotta work my friend!
There are so many decisions to make, so many options to chose from. As overwhelming as it all looks, it most importantly looks like a blast.
So if you know anyone about to get married or just starting the wedding process, next time you see them. Hug them, tell them they are amazing and remember one simple thing. Wear comfortable shoes because all of you are in for a wild adventure!

Pastel Be Gone: The Acceptance of Color

I have been pastel, chalky and a bit insubstantial lately. Apart from the fact that I am 5’9”, I have begun to blend in both aesthetically and socially.
This isn’t me. I’m not vanilla with a swirl of butterscotch (though that is really quite good.) I am brave. I am adventurous. I can even be funny at times. So why was I allowing myself to fade like a wicker chair out in the sun too long?
So, I chose color today. I chose poppy red to raise me out of Monet’s Water Lilies palette and rise like a phoenix into the vibrant air of spring. (I’ve been reading Harry Potter again so forgive the phoenix reference…)
People who are close to me, that is see me on a very regular basis, know that I wear a lot of paste. And not only do I wear it, I decorate with it. Everywhere. From the walls of my apartment to my excel spreadsheets at work.
But the world is a changin’ and has taken on an OZ like persona that stamps its figurative foot like a child and demands bright, bold, happy colors. I want color that people gravitate to and feel happy around. I want to be happy and have people around me.
Perhaps it is just the feel of spring in the Bay Area or maybe it is the Blog posts I have been reading lately. Or maybe, just maybe it is the gigantic life-altering-step of having the love of my life add roommate to his association with me that has done it, but whatever the reason may be…
I
Want
COLOR.
So my question right now is, what have you been craving lately?

Flitting Here and There and Everywhere

I am often distracted and impossibly impulsive. I often go off on tangents then when they run their course I never think of them again, or only sometimes like when you see a movie and you’ve SEEN that actor before but you can’t quite put your finger on it? I digress…
Currently I seem to be nesting. Now that the boyfriend has “officially” moved in I want the house clean. I want it organized. On top of that, I want it pretty and feminine and frilly too. (Lord help my poor boyfriend through this.)
My bank account is already cowering in the corner saying things like, “are you sure this a good idea,” and “what would your mother think of your outrageous spending?”
However, I like to flit around from here to there like a Disney character going about her day in a happy sing-song type of mood thinking everything will be fine. Everything will work out. You know, like when they show Snow White happily cleaning up after a bunch of short, smelly, hairy men she doesn’t even know? Yeah, thats me right now. No task is too large and no space too small.
Hopefully this current tangent will fade, my bank account will sustain minimal losses and my boyfriend won’t be afraid of me when I say, “Look what I got today!” (He actually does look at me like I’ve lost my ever lovin’ mind when I say this…) So here’s to spending the rest of the day looking on craigslist and amazon.com for decor that is both unique and utterly feminine. Cheers!
